Looking for new ideas

Does anyone have any ideas for our Song Assignments? So far we’ve covered lullabies, cooking recipes, birds, newspaper articles, buildings , plants and secret places. You can see it’s pretty varied, so if you have any inclination to hear your imaginings put to music, please get in touch here or at http://songassignment.wordpress.com/
Thank you!

Mixing…

Today I spent the morning mixing and polishing up four songs with Dave Millar, who has been instrumental in helping me to record a new demo/EP. I listened to them in the car on the way home below the rumble of the motorway, and I’m really looking forward to putting them up. They’re not quite finished yet, but I hope that they’ll be ready in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I will leave you with a couple of photos of my “vocal booth”, built from half a gazebo and some duvets, as well as an upright bed. It may not be Abbey Road, but it works.

Yum! another Song Assignment up and ready…

Yes this week it is about making food, so listen after lunch to avoid hunger pangs. Dave has written a sexy little number about making pasta for his friends, while I have composed a Sesame St.-esque ode to baking chocolate cookies. Enjoy! And vote for whichever sounds the most delicious…

Song Assignment No. 7: A Song About Recycled Music and/or Sounds

Hello there, another Song Assignment is up, this time involving recycled music and/or sounds. Mine is a Nina Simone cover so I guess Dave should get extra points for his original composition. However you vote, we don’t mind! http://songassignment.wordpress.com/

Song Assignment No. 5: Pick a newspaper article at random, write a song

This week we all chose an article at random and wrote a song based on that. I landed on what seemed like the most depressing and colourless story in the whole paper, but which actually turned out to hold some poetic gems. I used these without hesitation and combined them with a simple bassline to produce…quite a depressing song actually, but what else did I expect? As always, you can listen and cast your vote here:

Song Assignment No.4: Pick a Building, Write a Song

This week, VL writes about his childhood fear of the monastery near he house he grew up in. LW (that’s me) writes about La Sagrada Familia, a cathedral by Gaudi in the city where I was born. Strange that we both chose religious buildings…You can listen and cast your vote here:
