This week our challenge was to write about what we’ve been reading and, in my case, it happened to be the collection of short stories, Naked, by David Sedaris. I chose a chapter about his hitch-hiking trip up to Oregon to pick apples, first with his friend and, the next year, on his own, when he finds it isn’t quite as charming and rustic as he remembered. It’s a pretty funny narrative, but somehow when I wrote the song it dipped into the sadness that runs underneath the humour. Thanks to Mr. Sedaris for providing a plot I could ape, and happy listening-we appreciate it!
